I read the article, Six Degrees of Separation by Albert-Lazlo Barbasi, in which is discusses the idea of people as pathways as an experiment on social interconnection. The author believed that the World Wide Web has created this visualization. Also the author believes that six degrees is by no means a small amount of connections because there are often smaller links between people. This article shows the physical world and its connection with the internet. I find this article interesting because the author found of average that people are connected by 5.5 degrees of separation which is rounded to 6. I’m not quite sure what my project is yet but I want to do something along the lines of connecting people through the web.

On the contrary in Duncan Watts, Six Degrees of Separation, the author has a different view of this subject matter. He feels that the internet revolution has made a huge impact on the way people interconnect with one another. The author suggests that networks have a pervasive presence in our everyday lives. One of the main points in this article is this idea of understanding that the world is a small place and that everyone on the planet is connected to some person in one way or another. I find it interesting that that we are connected to people one way or another without even knowing it. This would somehow relate to my project by connecting people with other people who have no idea that they are connected.

In the article, The Death of the Author by Roland Barthess, discusses how removing an author from writing literature will enhance the literature by not pinpointing an author’s name. Authors try to make a name for their writing but often times the author dies within his work but comes back to life with his ideas. I feel that it is important for an author to be recognized for the work that they create. I also feel it is important for readers to focus on the work itself rather than focus on the name that is behind the work.

In the article, The Image Object Post-Internet by Artie Vierkant, discusses how art can be in different areas in relation to their art. The author believes that the work that is put into a certain piece of artwork is the artwork itself. In other words, this is how Vierkant believes artists are connected to their work. This is different than Roland Barthess piece because Barthess believes the author is dwindling away. When reading a text the message is usually more important than the author. These two article contrast because one talks about how artist will always be embedded in their work while in the other article it talks about how the author can be forgotten.
