In the essay, Digital Divide by Claire Bishop, examines the art worlds fear of New Media. Bishop explains how she has been taking contemporary art for granted and that this new digital society is affecting our artists. One of the quotes that I disagree with is, While many artists use digital technology, how many really confront the question of what it means to think, see, and filter affect through the digital? How many thematize this, or reflect deeply on how we experience, and are altered by, the digitization of our existence? The reason that I disagree with this is because what Bishop fails to grasp is that almost all new digital technology, in one shape or another, is based upon coding or mathematics. This is what determines what can or cannot be done. Most artists who can code are the ones that are rewarded in the end.
