Software Reading Assignment

Erkki Huhtamo believed art needs to be interactive and activated by its audience. An example
of this that I was able to find is Marina Abramović's performance piece Rhythm 0. In
this piece Marina stands next to a table that contains various props that can be used on her.
She stands there defenseless as audience members use each of the props on her, thus causing them to
interact with the piece.

Lev Manovich
argues art uses databases to collect groups of items using algorithms. These groups perform
different operations, thus making them user friendly. These collections can also be used to tell a story.
Databases are more cultural today, as our society moves into digital art forms. An example of this is
StumbleUpon. On this website, users can select categories that tailor to their interests and find websites
that full under those interests. This is an interesting way of categorizing the internet and making it
one large database of websites.

Marvin Minsky explains how art needs
to be able to be broken down. One cannot just accept what they see to be all there is to the image. There are
smaller elements that can be found within the piece. An example of this I was able to find was Philippe Halsman's
photograph Female Bodies as a Skull, which was inspired by Salvador Dali's drawing of seven naked women's bodies
formed to make the appearance of a skull. In this piece we initially see the skull, but once we break down the
piece further, one will notice the seven naked bodies that construct the image.
Software Project

For this project, I used found objects to create the scene of a cityscape. The first image is the original image of the Twin

to create this image.
