For this project I wanted to map a network that is popular today. I chose instagram because it is the main social media that I use. I always thought it was interesting how you could get likes not only from the people that follow you but people who find you through their friends or through hashtags. For this project I took one of my photos that had a large amount of likes and decided to map out how they found my photo. I started by writing down each of the likers user names then I went through and carefullly picked out the likers I know very well, the likers who are family, the likers I have met only a few times, the likers that are a friend of a friend, and the likers who found me through hashtags. The user names that are light blue are family, the user names that are red are people I know very well, the user names that are green are people I have only met a few times, the user names that are orange are a friend of a friend (found me through a friend), the user names that are purple are those who I have never met (found me through hashtags). I also mapped it out so that the closer the names are to the picture the closer I am with the person. This is considered art because I had to aesthetically choose how to display the information, the colors, shape, etc. The message I wanted to get across was how social media creates these connects between people you know and may have never met. It creates a network of all different people in this case through hashtags, your friends, and family.
