History

"Duchamp's 'Rotary Glass Plates (Precision Optics), created in 1920 with Man Ray, consisted of an optical machine and invited users to turn on the apparatus and stand at a certain distance from it in order to see the effect unfold." (Digital Art, Christiane Paul)

I chose Duchamp's "Rotary Glass Plates (Precision Optics)" because I believe a lot of my own artwork whether it be paintings, drawing, or sculptures play with optics. Much like Duchamps piece, my painting if looked at different ways creates optical illusions. A lot of times when I make a work of art, I want the viewer to see something different each time. I am able to create this effect like the one in my painting by messing around with the color shades, shapes, and angles.

The idea of optics has always interested me and has very much influenced my art. Pieces like Duchamps' were a pre-curser for the way optics can be created today digitally. This type of art is very interactive and each viewer can leave with a different experience. I want to evoke people with my art and by drawing inspiration from the past like Duchamp, as well as artists today, I believe I can make that a reality.
