Diversity in Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball is one amongst the most diverse in professional sports. This helped
spark the idea to map out a network that connects the players of the Los Angeles Angels of
Anaheim and the Colorado Rockies birthplaces or country of origin to one another. I expected
some overlap, especially amongst the players born in the United States but there was also some
connections that I didn't expect with all the players from other countries. All of my data was
provided by www.baseball-reference.com

Sticking with the baseball theme, I also created a network that connects me to some prominent
major league baseball players. The first one connects me to a long time friend who attends
CSU Long Beach. He also enjoys baseball and has gotten to know the head coach at Long Beach
Troy Buckley, who during his time as coach has coached such players as Troy Tulowitzki, Jared
Weaver and Evan Longoria.

This next one connects me to a member of the UCSB Baseball team, whom I met while living in
the residence halls a year ago. He then connects to current head coach Andrew Checketts who
connects to former coach Bob Bronstema who coached players such as Ryan Spilborghs, Skip
Schumaker and Micheal Young.
I found this extremely interesting because it helps you see how true the Six Degrees of Separation
are true and connections can be made to people anywhere and everywhere.
