History

Nam June Paik's "MagnetTV" turned the TV into a sculptural object. His piece was shown in the "The TV as a Creative Medium" show. This show also presented other artists such as Gillete and Schneider (Internet Art, Rachel Greene). The large magnet on top of the screen transformed the screen into an abstract composition. It changed the purpose and function of the TV. It no longer showed images upon the screen but this abstract series of lines and shapes.

Likewise, my own piece concerns abstraction. This picture ("Untitled") abstracts the edge of a wall until it no longer functions as a wall. It gives a painterly feeling reminiscence of Rothko with his large planes of pure color. The picture flattens the elements within the frame to transform them into pure color. The wall's texture reminds viewers of paint layered upon a canvas.
