For my hardware project, I built a "fan" using paper clips and string. To hold it in place, I cut out a hole in a shoebox to fit the motor in. It went against the taboo of touching museum objects because the entire point of the machine was to be interactive. Viewers could touch the strings as it went around in a circular motion. To continue this project, I would attach LED lights to the paperclip circle to make it a light drawing machine.
