History Reading
"One significant side effect of the information age is that research is easier than ever before."
— Digital Divide, Claire Bishop on Contemporary Art and New Media
I completely agree with the statement that with the Internet research has become much quicker and more effortless than any other time in history. Knowledge has always been power, and with knowledge being more and more readily accessible, people all around the world can access important information all without even leaving their homes. In the past one might have to make the journey to the library to search through books for hours to simply attempt to find what with the Internet takes only one quick search. Information has become so readily accessible globally and instantly that research can be conducted as never before in history, with the click of a button.
History Project
At first glance, one can tell the color palate is similar, containing various shades of similar greens.
White is also prominent within both pieces. The circular form in the center of each artwork is radiating
with sharp lines. Both pieces also contain a feeling of energy being cast out from the circular shape. The
two pieces differ in the use of black in the composition, with Whitney using black in the center of the circle
shape and background, while in my piece there is no black used at all.
Although John Whitney´s "Catalogue" is created by digital means, my piece was created using free hand
with acrylic paint. It is clear there is more uniformity within Whitney´s piece on the left, with an
almost symmetrical feel, whereas my piece the right it is more wild and crazy. Whitney´s piece is also
more clearly depicted with sharp lines and clean shapes. Yet my piece and the shapes within it are less static,
clearly defined, and are closer together.
