Intro Reading
The article Digital Divide by Claire Bishop discussions the importance of contemporary art in conjunction with digital media.
The paragraph that stood out to me the most was about the fascination with analog media.
It intrigued me because Bishop points out how all exhibits are completed with a form of obsolete technology in its midst.
The attraction behind old slide projectors or an 8-mm or 16-mm film reel is the warmth that you feel in comparison with the newer technological images.
It also provides a very nostalgic feel since such technology is considered obsolete.
I agree with the author on how new digital media can feel cold because its can be replicated so easily digitally and viewed everywhere whereas older photos take a lot longer to duplicate.
The differences between old media and new media are easy to see since new media can be accessed so easily and old media is more likely to be only a hard copy.
An example of this would be how before digital cameras became widely used only film cameras were used and each roll of film had to be developed.
Copies were a hassle to make but now with all the photos uploaded digitally its really easy to reprint and show others.
With such archiving methods everything is digital art and research is easier.
