Database/collection
Have you ever been in class and caught yourself deep in the pages of your notebook, creating new worlds of swirls and waves? I find myself in that place quite often and have accumulated a large collection of doodles from my time here at UCSB. Usually I would disregard these doodles but for this project I decided to go back to the past year and a half of journals and document my masterpieces. I discovered there were patterns, motifs, and reocurring symbols. I created a doodle database that displays the connections of my doodles. I created 7 categories using photoshop to organize photos of the doodles. I noticed I draw a lot of eyes, anchors, waves, and compasses. Time spent in church my doodles tend to be much more spiritual. I also have a section fro complete boredom: time when doodling is simply the only option. My hope is that organizing this doodle chaos the viewer can understand patterns that happen over time in my drawings.
I personally benefited from this and was able to realize some themes in my life and categorize the messy pages of my journals and note books.
